Yes. This is a good thing. I'm glad to see that the people working on this is striving to do the movie justice. Me myself I liked to the first Mortal Kombat movie (the second isn't even worth mentioning), but I'm glad that this one is going to give us long time Mortal Kombat fans a great experience.
